Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how DMCA Detector uses cookies and similar technologies such as local storage. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.
1. What are cookies and local storage?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. Local storage is a browser feature that can keep data on your device until cleared. We use both only for first-party functionality described below — not for advertising.
2. How we ask for consent
On your first visit we show a banner. You can:
- Accept preferences — allow preference cookies and local storage; or
- Essential only — store only your consent choice; no domain memory or “new since last check” history.
You can change your mind anytime via Cookie settings in the site footer. Withdrawing preference consent deletes stored domains, preference cookies, and seen-request history.
3. Cookies we use
| Name | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
dmca_consent |
Essential | Stores whether you accepted or declined preference storage, and when. | 365 days |
dmca_domains |
Preferences (consent required) | Remembers the domain list you entered so you can reuse it on later visits. | 365 days |
dmca_prefs |
Preferences (consent required) | Remembers checker options (Lumen, related domains, highlight new, remember domains). | 365 days |
4. Local storage we use
| Key | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
dmca-detector:seen-ids |
Preferences (consent required) | Stores request IDs already shown so newly discovered notices can be highlighted. | Until cleared or consent withdrawn |
dmca-detector:lumen-api-token |
Functional session (optional) | Holds a Lumen API token you paste when enabling filtered URLs & jurisdiction, for the current browser tab only. Not a cookie; not written to preference cookies. Cleared when the tab closes, when you remove the key, or when preference consent is withdrawn. | Current browser session |
5. What happens if you choose Essential only
- The checker still works for the current session.
- Domains and options are not saved for future visits.
- “Highlight new since last check” has no prior baseline to compare against.
- Any Lumen API token in session storage is cleared when you choose Essential only.
6. Third-party cookies
This site does not set advertising or analytics cookies. We load fonts from Google Fonts, which may allow Google to process your IP address and technical request data under Google’s policies. Content and API calls to Google Transparency Report or Lumen occur as part of fulfilling a check you initiate, not as tracking cookies set by this site. If you supply a Lumen API token, authentication is sent to Lumen via our serverless function for that check.
7. How to control cookies in your browser
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage via settings. Blocking all cookies may prevent us from remembering your consent choice, so the banner may reappear.
8. Updates
We may update this Cookie Policy when our storage practices change. The date at the top will be revised accordingly.
9. Contact
Questions about cookies or privacy should be directed to the site operator through any contact channel published with this deployment (if provided). Most preference data can be cleared locally via Cookie settings or your browser controls.
